Cristina Kelly
An abstract artist in Vancouver, BC
The underlying philosophy for my work is that there is not one ideal reaction to the situations and stimuli we encounter in life - there are multiple and infinite possibilities. I aim to represent this with my work, creating pieces that evoke various emotions and ideas. This mirrors how I create my pieces - I’m expressing what is going on in my own head, which is scattered, emotional and explorative. I’m influenced by the boldness of street art, the originality and effortlessness of nature and the emotion in a human face or body. I’m most connected to and inspired by colour, and how different colours interact to create impressions. In the heavily structured world we live in, these paintings are a form of resistance, not having a set path or set of rules. I would like people to see the work and feel this same freedom of thought and feeling - either in the full painting or in just a segment of it. My hope is that these paintings can act as living, breathing things in a space, constantly shifting and revealing something new to the onlooker.
